My Travels With Jan

and the Fog City Hittys in San Francisco

Presidio towards Bay

Dear Hitty Friends,

As you know, I have been visiting the Fog City Hittys in San Francisco. When I first arrived I was weary from the long trip. the Hittys greeted me warmly with a comfy chair and a cup of peppermint tea to sooth my tummy after all those bumpy hills. We chatted awhile then went to bed for an early night.

Our first outing was to a miniature show. there were many lovely things to be seen. At the prices, we did not make any purchases, but did come away with many ideas to be developed later. I had my picture taken with Hitty Rita Raikes in front of a very large and very expensive doll house.

As it happens, the tall ships were visiting San Francisco during my visit. It seemed serendipitous given my background and origins. We saw the ships and walked through many interesting displays. One of theships was a replica of the Nina.

No visit to SF is complete without a visit to the Golden Gate bridge. We took pictures from different angles to get the best effect. One shot shows a ship just as it passed under the bridge, another shows the workmen on a scaffold in mid-air under the bridge. There is also a picture of Fort Point, a civil war fort built at the base of the bridge.

We had a lovely lunch at Fisherman's Wharf (actually I watched) and walked around to see the sights. Two clowns on stilts posed for pictures for us.

Ghiaradelli Square is another famous area in SF . There are many shops and restaurants to see (I thought my pegs would fall off, but I was able to ride in a pocket so I was not tired at all.) The chocolate is wonderful. The size of some of those ice cream sundaes would knock your socks off. One shop had tee shirts that smell like chocolate, but they did not have my size.

We did see the cable cars but did not want to hang on outside so we did not ride. We timed our outings for when we had sunny days. On the cold foggy days we stayed indoors and played games and had tea parties. The Hittys here have an interest in the theater and put on plays for my enjoyment.

Today I am leaving for Bangor Maine and the opportunity to meet more Hitty friends and see more places. They say that travel is broadening, but I am happy to report that despite the chocolate and tea parties, I have not gained an ounce in weight. My figure remains the same. I hope that I do not sound vain.

Best Wishes,
Hitty Emily
